Sahih al-Bukhari 6527

It is related that Abu Humayd as-Sa'idi said, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, appointed Ibn al-'Utabiya* to collect the zakat of the Banu Asad. When he came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, he said, 'This is for you and this is a gift I was given.' The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, Why did you not sit in the house of your father or the house of your mother until your gift came to you if you are telling the truth?' Then the Messenger of Allah * stood up and addressed the people. After praising and glorifying Allah, he said, 'Following on from that. I appoint some of your men over matters which Allah has put in my charge and then one of you comes and says, " This is for you and this is a gift I was given." Why did he not sit in the house of his father or the house of his mother until his gift came to him if he is telling the truth? By Allah, none of you will take anything [and Hisham added 'without right'] but that he will he will come to Allah on the Day of Rising carrying it. ?I do not want to see a man coming to Alah with a camel grumbling, a cow lowing or a sheep bleating.' Then he raised his hands until we could see the whites of his armpits, saying, 'O Allah, have I not conveyed it?'" [*Another variant has al-Lutayba.] XLII. The inner court of the ruler and the people he consults Bitana are those who are allowed to enter.
